Cars 2 speeds all the way to box office victory

*Pixar’s hot-wheeled sequel _Cars 2_ revved to the top of the US
box office this weekend, grossing an impressive $68m.*

In a bit of a blow to Pixar's stellar run, the follow-up to the
studio’s 2006 vehicle only managed to bag fair to middling
reviews, even though it beat the first _Car_s' debut of $60m.

However, the sequel was still streets ahead of the nearest
competition, with Cameron Diaz’s _Bad Teacher_ (a fitting title
given the critical reactions it’s had) landing in second place
with $31m.

Despite also failing to charm the critics, _Green Lantern_ continued
to attract audiences in third ($18.3m), while _Super 8_ dropped to
fourth with $12.1m.

Here’s how the rest of the line-up looked…

1 _Cars 2_ $68,000,000 $68
2 _Bad Teacher_ $31,000,000 $31
3 _Green Lantern_ $18,350,000 $89.3
4 _Super 8_ $12,100,000 $95.1
5 _Mr. Popper’s Penguins_ $10,300,000 $39.4
6 _X-Men: First Class_ $6,600,000 $132.8
7 _The Hangover Part II_ $5,865,000 $232.9
8 _Bridesmaids_ $5,372,000 $146.6
9 _Pirates of the Caribbean 4_ $4,700,000 $229
10 _Midnight in Paris_ $4,480,000 $28.5
